Homelessness isn't always seen in the open. It can mean a mother and her children living in their car, a senior skipping meals to pay rent, or someone quietly struggling after the loss of a job or a medical crisis.
When you give through The Salvation Army, you’re making sure no one has to face these challenges alone. You’re offering safety, dignity, and the chance to begin again.
Like Sarah, a mother of three who found herself living in her car after facing eviction and serious personal challenges. With help from The Salvation Army, she found shelter, dignity, and a way forward. Read Sarah’s Story →
The scope of the crisis:
On any given night, nearly 28,000 people rely on The Salvation Army for a safe place to stay in the Eastern Territory alone.1
In 2024, homelessness surged 18.1% in the U.S., reaching over 770,000 individuals, an all-time high.2
More than 35% of those experiencing homelessness are unsheltered, sleeping in parks, cars, or abandoned buildings. An increase of nearly 7% from 2023.3
One-third of people facing homelessness are families with children, a population that rose 39% over the last year. Nearly 150,000 children were homeless on a single night.4
