An Army for Others

Bringing Hope. Preaching Christ. Meeting Human Need.

We live in a world full of pain, pressure, beauty, and questions.
And into all of that—The Salvation Army shows up.

With food, yes. With shelter, often. But more deeply—with love.
With hope. And emotional and spiritual support.
With the message that no one is forgotten by God.

Since 1865, when William and Catherine Booth first preached the gospel in the streets of London, The Salvation Army has been a movement for people. People in poverty. People in crisis. People looking for purpose. People like you and me.

Today, that same mission continues:

To preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

We’re not just an army of uniforms.
We’re an army of compassion.
Of cooks, counselors, preachers, mentors, donors, students, social workers, neighbors, volunteers, and believers.
We’re an Army for Others.

And there’s a place for you here.

So who is the Army?

We’re glad you asked.

Let us introduce you to the people behind the mission—the hands and hearts that carry the message forward.

Friends Like You

This Army begins with people who care.

You don’t need a title to belong here. If you’ve ever paused to check on a neighbor, donated a winter coat, prayed for someone hurting, or wondered how to make a difference—you’re one of us already.

This is a movement for people who believe love still changes things.
It’s where kindness meets calling. And where community begins.

You may not see yourself as a hero, but your willingness to notice, to serve, and to care is exactly what this world needs. Every meal served, every prayer offered, every act of compassion moves the mission forward.

God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
And with friends like you, this Army shows up—not just with resources, but with hope, faith, and the love of Christ in action.

Partners

Generosity in action. Hope multiplied.

Behind every meal served, every safe bed offered, and every life restored, there’s someone who gave so it could happen. Our partners—individual donors, churches, foundations, businesses—aren’t on the sidelines. They are at the heart of the mission, moving it forward with purpose and compassion.

Their support fuels more than just logistics. It powers life change. It sends counselors into the field, stocks food pantries with dignity, deploys supplies after disaster, and brings spiritual care to people at their most vulnerable.

Every gift, large or small, is a declaration: you matter.

And when partners step up, hope goes further than we could ever take it alone.

Program Participants

Neighbors. Not numbers.

Every day, people come through our doors seeking help—and what they find is more than a service. They find care, belonging, and a path forward. Whether someone is accessing food assistance, transitional housing, job training, recovery support, or youth programming, they’re met with respect and genuine compassion.

Our participants are not just recipients of aid. They are our neighbors, fellow worshipers, and often future leaders. Many engage in Bible studies, join in worship, or volunteer to give back—growing alongside others in faith and community.

We walk with them, not ahead of them. Because every story is sacred. Every life has value. And hope begins when we journey together.

Volunteers

Showing up when it matters most.

Volunteers are the heartbeat of The Salvation Army. From serving meals and organizing food drives to tutoring youth and helping with holiday outreach, they meet needs with compassion and consistency. Whether it’s a few hours a month or every week, they make our ministry possible.

They respond when disaster strikes, bring joy during Christmas, and lend helping hands all year round—in shelters, senior programs, community kitchens, and more. Many also support worship services, midweek programs, and special events, becoming familiar faces in the life of the church.

Their reward? Lives changed. Hope restored. And faith deepened—both in those they serve and in themselves.

No matter your schedule, there’s a place for you.

Members & Adherents

Faith lived out in community.

Not everyone wears a uniform—but everyone has a place. Members and adherents are part of our church families in meaningful, personal ways. They come to worship, join Bible studies, serve in outreach, and grow in faith alongside others.

They haven’t signed a covenant, but they’ve made a commitment: to walk with Jesus and be part of something bigger than themselves. They’re mentors, volunteers, prayer warriors, worshippers, and friends. In every way, they help carry out the mission of The Salvation Army.

This isn’t about checking boxes. It’s about showing up—with love, consistency, and a desire to grow.

Soldiers

Everyday people. Lifelong commitment.

Soldiers are everyday believers who’ve chosen to go all in—making a personal and public covenant to follow Jesus and serve others through The Salvation Army.

They wear the uniform not for status, but as a sign of surrender and purpose. You’ll find Soldiers leading Sunday worship, mentoring youth at midweek programs, visiting homes, praying with neighbors, serving meals, and sharing the gospel in practical ways. They don’t just attend church—they are the church in action.

Soldiership is about living a bold, visible faith. It’s about evangelism, discipleship, and choosing daily to be part of God’s healing work in the world.

Employees

Mission-minded. People-powered.

Salvation Army employees serve in roles that are as diverse as the communities we walk alongside—ranging from social workers, counselors, and case managers to custodians, truck drivers, store associates, and seasonal kettle workers. Some serve behind the scenes, while others are on the front lines every day—but all are essential to our shared mission.

Whether staffing a shelter, ringing a bell, preparing meals, maintaining facilities, managing programs, or mentoring youth, our employees bring their skills and hearts to work with purpose. Many serve in integrated roles that reflect The Salvation Army’s unique blend of church and social service—where practical help and spiritual care go hand in hand.

They are part of the movement to meet human need in Jesus’ name—without discrimination. Every task contributes to something bigger: lives changed, dignity restored, and communities strengthened.

Officers

Shepherds. Servants. Leaders in Christ.

Salvation Army officers are ordained ministers who have answered God’s call to full-time service and leadership. Their lives are marked by a deep commitment to Jesus and a willingness to go wherever the mission leads—whether that’s preaching on Sunday, running a food pantry, offering spiritual counsel, or organizing disaster relief.

Officers pastor local corps (churches), disciple individuals and families, and provide hands-on leadership in community programs that bring hope and healing. Their ministry blends spiritual care with practical help, embodying the belief that the gospel is good news for every part of life.

With hearts surrendered and lives devoted, officers lead by example, equipping others to live out their own calling in the Army’s mission: to love, to serve, to disciple—and to do it all for Jesus.

Why the Uniform?

It’s not a costume. It’s a commitment.

Some of us wear uniforms. Most don’t.
The uniform isn’t about rank or recognition—it’s about identity.

It’s a visible sign that we’re here on purpose, for a purpose: to bring hope where it’s needed, and to stand with those the world too often overlooks. Whether feeding a family, praying with someone in grief, or helping someone find their way back to God—the uniform says, “You are not alone.”

But remember: You don’t need a uniform to be part of this mission.

Come as you are. We mean that.

An Army for Others.
A Mission for You!

This is more than a movement.
It’s a mission with eternal stakes.

The Salvation Army is a church and a force for good—made up of volunteers, donors, church members, soldiers, and officers—all united to follow Jesus and serve a hurting world.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign, a role, a reason—this is it.
You don’t need a uniform to join us. Just a willing heart.

Jesus is still calling.
The world still needs healing.
And this Army still marches on.

Will you join us?
