SAWA Website

Purpose

It is the purpose of the Auxiliary, consistent with The Salvation Army precepts, to assist The Salvation Army of Greater Houston as a fundraising, educational and volunteer service group.

History

The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary of Houston was founded in 2003 by Lilly Andress in collaboration with The Salvation Army representative, Major Dorris Gonzalez. Support was given by a distinguished group of 33 charter members, women who were already outstanding community leaders. Lilly served as the Auxiliary’s first president. The Auxiliary’s symbol is the butterfly, representing new beginnings.

Initiatives

The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary of Houston is a volunteer, educational and fundraising arm of The Salvation Army of Greater Houston. The Auxiliary sponsors initiatives that enrich the lives of those individuals living in Harris, Montgomery and Fort Bend counties by meeting them at their point of need. These initiatives include:

  • The Boys and Girls Clubs

  • Center of Hope
  • Easter Party
