The Salvation Army continues to support over 20 service locations in areas of Texas affected by hurricane Beryl

Jul 15, 2024

Houston, TX (July 15, 2024) - On Monday as Hurricane Beryl was heading our way The Salvation Army had a disaster response team staged in San Antonio waiting to move into Houston as soon as it was safe to do so. On Tuesday morning, an Incident Command Team along with support canteens & rapid response units and our disaster partners Baptist with a mission arrived.  On Tuesday night we began to provide meals to our community. In addition, on Tuesday Carolynn went to the Houston City Emergency Operation Center to serve as the Liaison between The Salvation Army & the City of Houston.

Since Tuesday additional support teams have arrived from Atlanta, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma and of course from across Texas. At the end of Saturday July 13, the team has served 46,663 hot meals, 42,157 drinks, 481 food boxes, 2,160 bags of ice, 3,229 cases of water. We have served in 9 counties, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Walker & Wharton Counties. Between these 9 counties we are serving hot meals in approximately 27 communities each day.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and volunteered in these efforts. Stay safe and know that help is here.
