Investing in Our Staff - Empowering Our Youth
At The Salvation Army of Greater Houston, we believe that supporting young people begins with equipping the staff who serve them. Our Red Shield Youth Centers recently participated in an important training focused on Social-Emotional Learning and de-escalation, providing our team with practical tools and strategies to better understand, connect with, and respond to the needs of the youth in our programs.
Social-emotional learning helps staff recognize and support the emotional, social, and behavioral needs of young people while encouraging positive relationships, communication, self-awareness, and responsible decision-making. De-escalation training further equips our teams to respond to challenging situations calmly and effectively, helping create safe and supportive environments where youth can learn, grow, and thrive.
This training is part of several new initiatives and professional development opportunities being introduced across our Red Shield Youth Centers. Our goal is to continually strengthen our programs and equip staff with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to be more effective in their roles.
We extend our huge appreciation to all of our Site Directors and staff who showed up, participated, and committed to completing this certification. Their willingness to learn and grow demonstrates the dedication they have to the young people and families we serve.
Every interaction can make a difference in a young person's life. By investing in our staff, we are strengthening our ability to provide positive experiences, build meaningful relationships, and create spaces where every young person feels seen, supported, and valued.
Psalm 127:3-5 (NIV) Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.
