Houston International Corps Boys & Girls Club Rockets Through Summer with Egg-cellent STEM
As our summer program comes to a close, we are thrilled to share some exciting activities...
This summer was filled with creativity, teamwork, and hands-on learning, with one of the highlights being our rocket-building project.
This year, as part of a STEM program, our club members were divided into groups and tasked with building rockets equipped with parachutes, each carrying a fragile cargo—an egg! The challenge? To launch the rockets and ensure they operated properly, deploying parachutes, safely bringing the eggs back to earth without a crack.
The kids embraced this challenge with enthusiasm, showing incredible dedication as they designed, built, and tested their rockets. It was inspiring to see their creativity in action, as they brainstormed ideas, collaborated on designs, and problem-solved together to make sure their rockets were flight-ready.
On launch day, the excitement was palpable. Each group gathered outside, rockets in hand, eager to see if their hard work would pay off. With a countdown, the rockets soared into the sky, and everyone held their breath as the parachutes deployed. The cheers that followed each successful landing were a testament to the pride and joy felt by the kids—and the adults watching!
We are incredibly proud of how well all the kids performed in their groups, showcasing not only their creativity but also their ability to work together as a team. This project was more than just a fun activity; it was an opportunity for our kids to learn valuable lessons in collaboration, perseverance, and engineering.
We want to thank everyone who made this summer program a success, from our dedicated staff to the supportive families, and most importantly, to the amazing kids who brought their best to every activity. We can’t wait to see what next summer holds, but for now, let’s celebrate the fantastic achievements of this summer’s rocket scientists!
