Honoring a Sweet Tradition - National Donut Day with The Salvation Army
Did you know that National Donut Day began with a heartfelt mission on the front lines of World War I? Our legendary “Donut Lassies” served freshly made donuts to soldiers, offering comfort, encouragement, and a much-needed taste of home during times of hardship. Their simple act of kindness started a tradition that lives on more than a century later. Today, The Salvation Army proudly honors that legacy by continuing to serve our communities with love, compassion, and always, donuts!
This year, our modern-day “Donut Lassies” hit the streets once again, spreading joy across the city. They stopped by local donut shops, H-E-B stores, and even delivered sweet treats to some of our board members and first responders, who were thrilled to join in the tradition. With each visit came smiles, conversations, and moments of connection that reflect what this day is truly about: bringing people together through simple acts of kindness.
To everyone who celebrated by sharing a donut, giving a smile, or supporting the Salvation Army, you helped carry on a tradition of hope that started over 100 years ago.
Thank you for celebrating with us! And remember any day is a good day to serve with love and donuts.
