City of Houston Honors The Salvation Army for Disaster Relief Services

May 5, 2025

We are proud to share that Major Carolynn Webb received a special recognition award from Mayor John Whitmire and the City of Houston on behalf of The Salvation Army for the tremendous service provided during last year’s Derecho Storm and Hurricane Beryl.

This honor reflects not only Major Webb’s leadership, but the collective dedication of every officer, staff member, volunteer, and community partner who stepped up during these devastating events. From delivering hot meals in the sweltering heat to distributing emergency supplies and offering emotional and spiritual care, the work done in those critical days was nothing short of heroic.

In the face of widespread damage, power outages, and displacement, The Salvation Army’s teams mobilized swiftly serving thousands of families and individuals affected by the storms. The response was fueled by compassion, guided by purpose, and rooted in faith and love.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all who made our response possible—officers, staff, volunteers, donors, and partners. Your unwavering commitment empowered us to respond quickly, serve effectively, and most importantly, share God’s love in a time of uncertainty and distress.

As we reflect on this recognition, we are reminded that when the community comes together in service and compassion, there is no storm we cannot weather.

“We are deeply honored by this recognition,” said Major Webb. “But this award belongs to every person who rolled up their sleeves and gave their time, their energy, and their heart to help others. This is what it means to be The Salvation Army.”
