Behind the Shield: A Look at the Heart of The Salvation Army
Recently, The Salvation Army of Greater Houston hosted its first-ever Behind the Shield event at our new Area Command office. Donors were invited to hear the heart of our mission firsthand, and the day was filled with moving stories, meaningful connections, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Board members, Area Commanders, and department directors gathered to share what drew them to The Salvation Army. Each story reflected a unique journey of faith, service, and transformation but all echoed the same theme: the power of hope and the impact of community support.
One of the most compelling moments of the event came from John Romaka, our Development Director, who courageously shared his personal journey. From once being in rehabilitation to now serving as a leader within The Salvation Army, John’s story is a powerful testament to how lives can be completely changed.
His future and the futures of so many others has been made possible because of the generosity of donors who believe in Doing the Most Good.
The turnout for this inaugural event was inspiring, and we are excited to share that more editions of Behind the Shield will be coming soon. These gatherings offer an inside look into the life-changing work made possible by the compassion and generosity of our community.
