With over 125 years of service to the Houston metro area, The Salvation Army of Greater Houston has some not so commonly known historical truths. We want to blow your mind and get you thinking about how we've grown thanks to your support and trust.
Did You Know:
- The Salvation Army of Houston provides resources to three counties in the Greater Houston area: Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery. We serve these communities via 6 Community Care Centers.
- The Salvation Army was established in Houston by five young women. One of them being Captain Hattie B. Savage, also known as Captain French.
- We provide more than homelessness and holiday assistance; we also offer afterschool programming, activities, and learning opportunities for youth and have a dedicated center for young adults via our Young Adults Resource Center (YARC).
- Our leadership is structured so that our Area Commanders deploy to other communities every few years to provide a different outlook to respond to community needs.
- Our disaster response goes beyond Hurricane Season; we are ready to respond to any emergency by working with organizations to respond strategically.
