Serving Smiles by the Dozen

Held annually on the first Friday in June, National Donut Day is a sweet time to celebrate America’s heroes. On June 5, The Salvation Army will thank the men and women on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic by delivering donuts and hope.

This tradition dates back to World War I, when nearly 250 Salvation Army volunteers traveled overseas to provide emotional and spiritual support, fried confectionery, clothes, and supplies to troops. For more than a century, the organization has continued to provide snacks, hydration, and comfort to the first responders and front-line workers.

Donut Day Celebration Highlights:

New Orleans, LA

The Salvation Army of Greater New Orleans will deliver donuts to doctors, nurses, and staff of the Ochsner Baptist Medical Center during their morning shift change. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and WDSU Meteorologist, Damon Singleton will be there to help celebrate the occasion!

Jackson, MS

The Salvation Army of Jackson is delivering donuts—provided by Dunkin Donuts—to first responders, unemployment offices, grocery stores, and frontline COVID-19 relief employees!

Greenwood, MS

The Salvation Army of Greenwood will host a Do Good Mobile Donut Party, delivering donuts supplied by Honest Abe’s Donuts to first responders, Greenwood Leflore Hospital, and the Mayor’s office. The Greenwood Corps will also give donuts to customers at their Thrift Store!

MS Gulf Coast

The Salvation Army of the Mississippi Gulf Coast has partnered with Krispy Kreme to deliver donuts to each local city police department, fire department, and the Mayor’s office!

Shreveport, LA

The Salvation Army of Shreveport will deliver donuts supplied by Southern Maid Donuts, a long-time local bakery, to area hospitals for the COVID-19 nurses and staff to enjoy, and to Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. Plenty of donuts will also be shared with Salvation Army shelter residents and employees so they can join the celebration!

Dothan, AL

The Salvation Army of Dothan has partnered with Krispy Kreme of Dothan to celebrate with a moment of goodness. The Dothan Corps will be visiting and distributing donuts to local emergency responders, including the police and fire departments, veteran organizations, and funeral homes, to say thank you to frontline workers.
