Cold Weather Shelter Shelter Visitor Information


The Cold Weather Shelter opens when temperatures drop below 41 degrees, or when area leaders see the need.   The Salvation Army MS Gulf Coast has two Cold Weather Shelter locations:



The Salvation Army Area Command Headquarters at 2019 22nd Street.

Doors open at 4:00 p.m. for Cold Weather Shelter clients and close at 10:00 p.m. for lights out. Dinner is at 6:00 p.m. and breakfast will be provided at the shelter.



The Salvation Army of Jackson County is located at 3217 Nathan Hale Ave.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for Cold Weather clients. Dinner and breakfast are served.

The Salvation Army Cold Weather Shelter Rules


Violation of these rules will result in denial of services from TSA programs

  • You must be sober to enter
  • No Weapons
  • No Alcohol
  • No Drugs
  • No Profanity or Slurs No Bullying
  • No Sexual Acting Out
  • No Pets – ask a friend or SM Humane Society if they can pet sit for the night
  • Enter and Exit ONLY through the Kitchen door for Cold Weather Shelter
    • During these times: 4 to 10 PM and 6 to 8 AM
    • All other exits are for emergency only – no re-entry available
  • Consent to a Breathalyzer test and search of bags and person is required
  • Vehicle Registration Form is required for all vehicles on Salvation Army property
  • Follow instructions given by volunteers and staff
  • Be respectful of yourself and others
  • Leave bad or quarrelsome attitudes off TSA property
  • No Food or Drink in sleeping area
  • Smoking is ONLY allowed Outside by the picnic tables – Use Ash Cans
    • During these times: 4 to 10 PM and 6 to 8 AM
  • Stay at the Picnic Tables or inside building- Loitering around the building and/or back lot is NOT acceptable
  • Do not go into the front lobby of the building. This area is closed during Cold Weather Shelter hours
  • Stay out of areas marked “Employee Only”
  • Volunteer in Charge will control TV – using family appropriate entertainment
  • Dinner is at 6:00 PM – Eat what you want while it is being served.
    • When everyone has been served, the food will be put away and the kitchen cleaned. Food will NOT be available after that
  • Water is the only beverage served after 8:30 PM
  • No Coffee will be brewed after 8:15 PM
  • Lights out from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Everyone is on their cot, cell phones are on silent and everyone is quiet and still. No exit for smoking. No food or beverage in sleeping area.
