It’s Ambassadors for Good Day!

Ambassadors for Good Day is a one-day event designed to educate and engage the public regarding the work of The Salvation Army locally throughout the Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi Division. Participating Salvation Army locations throughout the tri-state area are teaming up with local celebrity ambassadors on August 10, 2021, to educate and inspire the public by showing them what we do and how to get involved.

Each location is unique, and the participation of the local ambassadors will be in accordance with their own unique skills and the specific programs/services provided by that particular Salvation Army. Activities could range from serving food in a soup kitchen to working in a community garden to reading to children at one of our after-school programs. See below for details about today’s activities with our awesome Ambassadors for Good!

MERIDIAN, MS

• Todd & Brooke Tilghman:

Winner of The Voice Season 18, Todd Tilghman and his wife Brooke are also authors who have recently released a book, “Every Little Win.” Avid Salvation Army supporters, the Tilghmans are helping to raise awareness with us today.

• Jamal Roberts:

Gospel artist, radio host on The Praise Radio Show, and finalist on BET’s show Sunday Best, Mr. Roberts has volunteered to help serve the evening meal.

SHREVEPORT, LA

• Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins

• Stromile Swift, Former NBA player

Mayor Perkins and Stromile Swift will serve lunch to shelter residents at The Salvation Army Merkle Center of Hope. Lunch will be served from a Salvation Army canteen on the shelter grounds. There will also be a snow cone truck on hand to provide sweet relief from the heat.

BIRMINGHAM, AL

• Danny Carr, Jefferson County District Attorney

• Sheriff Mark Pettway

• Ron “Papa Jack” Jackson, Former MLB Player & Youth Baseball Coach

Ambassadors will serve hot meals, organize the clothing closet, or pack food bags in The Marketplace pantry at The Salvation Army Birmingham Area Command.

COLUMBUS, MS

• Nora Miller, President of Mississippi University for Women

• Columbus Police Chief Frederick Shelton

• Todd Davis, Columbus Salvation Army Advisory Board Chairman

Ambassadors will be at the Columbus Salvation Army facility serving community gift boxes, non-perishable food from the food pantry, and Walmart-donated meat items, pastries, and vegetables to the public.

COASTAL AL

• Caroline Carithers, WKRG Reporter/Meteorologist

Caroline Carithers will be conducting interviews and broadcasting throughout the day from multiple local Salvation Army locations, including the Salvation Army Thrift Store, Family Haven shelter, and Red Shield Shelter/Dauphin Way Lodge.

MS GULF COAST

• Rachel Shumaker, Miss Mississippi Volunteer

• Buddy Graves, Local Christian Quartet Singer

The event will feature a Salvation Army canteen providing water and a large banner describing the event. Ambassadors are volunteering to spend one hour of their time at a mock homeless camp to raise awareness that “need has no season.”
