TIFTON, GA (June 17, 2020) – On Tuesday, June 23 at 9 a.m., The Salvation Army of Tifton will hold its first MILK-A-POOLZA where 250 gallons of milk will be distributed to neighbors in need.
Sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), a refrigerated truck will transport milk generously donated by Bordon Dairy to The Salvation Army of Tifton's service center located at 1205 E. Hwy 82, Tifton, GA 31793. This event is open to the general public where those in need have the opportunity to drive up in their vehicles and choose between 2% and whole milk (a limit of one gallon per household while supplies last).
There are no eligibility requirements to receive the milk, but The Salvation Army asks that all participants stay in their vehicles and follow COVID-19 safety measures, such as wearing masks and practicing social distancing. All staff members and volunteers will be wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and will take appropriate safety precautions when distributing milk.
"One of our biggest passions is feeding the hungry, so what better way to do that than providing a healthy drink like milk to our community," said Kelley Bedore, The Salvation Army of Tifton's Service Center Director. "Trying to find nutritious, affordable food to put on the table has been a constant struggle for many of our neighbors, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only intensified their need."
Since the length of the COVID-19 crisis is unknown, The Salvation Army of Tifton is enhancing its programs to include events like MILK-A-POOLZA to combat the tough times that so many face today.
"We would like to extend a huge ‘thank you' to Bordon Dairy and the USDA for their support and incredible partnership," said Bedore. "We are proud to stand together with both of these organizations in these unprecedented times in doing the most good for the Tifton community."
The anticipated turnout for Tuesday's MILK-A-POOLZA is expected to be over 200 people. In the future, The Salvation Army of Tifton plans to hold similar events twice a month. For information on future event dates or inquiries on how to apply for financial assistance, please contact The Salvation Army of Tifton service center at 229-386-1503 or email Kelley Bedore at [email protected].
