A haven is defined as a place of shelter, refuge, and safety. However, for residents of The Salvation Army Family Haven it is so much more. It is family, love, guidance, faith, support, and HOPE.
The only shelter in the Coastal Alabama region of its kind, the Family Haven welcomes both single and two parent families. Providing emergency housing for homeless families built upon the goal of keeping them together while teaching the life skills needed to transition and maintain permanent housing.
On any given night, there could be up to 55 individuals from 15 different families living at The Family Haven. This is their “home.” We provide food, shelter, basic material needs, and a safe place for families in crisis to begin to heal. Each family is provided individualized services to assist in setting goals, obtaining life skills (such as budgeting), communication skills, parenting, stress management, finding a job, and more as they begin their journey to stable, permanent housing as a family.
