A haven is defined as a place of shelter, refuge, and safety. However, for residents of The Salvation Army’s Family Haven, this word means so much more. It means family, love, guidance, faith, support, and HOPE.
The only shelter of its kind in the Coastal Alabama region, Family Haven welcomes both single-parent and two-parent families. Family Haven provides emergency housing for homeless families based on the goal of keeping them together while teaching the life skills needed to transition and maintain permanent housing.
On any given night, there could be up to 58 individuals from 15 different families living at Family Haven. We provide food, shelter, basic items, and a safe place for families in crisis to begin the healing process. Each family is provided individualized services to assist in setting goals, obtaining life skills (such as budgeting), parenting, finding a job, and more as they begin their journey to stable, permanent housing as a family unit.
