Mother Daughter Tea 2016 logo

The 2nd Annual Mother Daughter Tea was a huge success.  There was plenty of tea, flowers, cupcakes, princesses and smiles to fill the entire room at the Battlehouse Hotel!

As guests entered the ballroom, each of them — women and girls, boys and dads — wore their Sunday best complete with flowery themes many topped with pretty bows atop of their heads in the case of most little girls in attendance.  Flower Crowns, tutus and ‘flubber’ were all big hits with everyone young and old.  The tables were covered with cute teapots filled with teas and lemonade.  Delectable cupcakes, scones and scrumptious sandwiches accompanied the mouth-watering beverages.  New this year, each table had a Disney inspired princess or queen theme.

WKRG News 5 anchors, Devon Walsh and Jessica Taloney brought their little girls on stage with them as they hosted the event.  A series of heartwarming videos showcased The Salvation Army Family Haven and the vital role the facility plays in the Coastal Alabama community.

The Mother Daughter Tea is a fundraiser for The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama Family Haven which is made possible through donations received from the community.  The Family Haven provides emergency housing for families without a home.  The Family Haven can accommodate 15 families.  It is the only family shelter of its kind in the Coastal Alabama region.  Both single fathers with children and single mothers with children as well as two parent families will be  welcomed into the Family Haven.  Parents who have children with disabilities are also welcome.  “The Family Haven is more like a home than a traditional shelter”, said one family.  The Family Haven is an expanded service model designed with a goal of keeping homeless families together.
