The Salvation Army partners with The Museum School this Spring

MOBILE, Ala., May 5, 2016 – The Mobile Museum of Art education department has a new community outreach arm called “The Museum School.”  Last fall, The Museum School offered classes at the City’s Parks and Recreation’s Harmon-Thomas Center. Now they are bringing art activities to The Salvation Army Family Haven, the agencies newest facility that provide
s emergency housing for temporarily displaced families. May 10, 17, and 24th The Museum School education staff will offer early evening art classes for the families currently living at The Salvation Army’s facility.

The Salvation Army Family Haven accommodates up to 15 families. The only family shelter of its kind in the Coastal Alabama region, this modern motel-style facility is an expanded service model designed with a goal of keeping homeless families together. Both single fathers with children and single mothers with children as well as two parent families are welcome. In addition to room and board, the Family Haven provides clothing and transportation assistance, counseling, parenting classes, financial management classes, job preparation assistance, childcare, and help finding permanent housing.

As an enthusiastic addition to this wealth of services, the Mobile Museum of Art’s Museum School artists will lead art classes aimed at bringing families together to think creatively. The classes offered include printmaking, ceramics, and collage with a focus on themes of family, identity, and collaboration. Each class will present a unique and relevant project that can be adapted to any age group and skill level.100_0682
