THE SALVATION ARMY CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST Gearing Up for Holiday Programs, Needing More Community Involvement
It may be 90 degrees outside, but Santa’s Elves at The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama are already hard at work preparing for a busy holiday season full of helping our neighbors in need. And why keep the Christmas Spirit to ourselves? So here are some exciting ways to get involved and help us prepare for Christmas.
Red Kettle Sponsorships – This is an exciting opportunity for local organizations, corporations and businesses to help The Salvation Army meet the needs of thousands of people in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. By sponsoring a Red Kettle, your logo will be displayed on the Red Kettle sign at the location you choose. They are highly visible at prominent business locations in Coastal Alabama, and will associate your company with a trusted charity that has been serving this community since 1887 – more than 125 years!
Red Kettle Bell Ringers– Every Christmas, the sounds of The Salvation Army Red Kettle Bell Ringers fill the air signaling the start of the holiday season. It’s an age-old tradition for families and individuals along Coastal Alabama. But this year, we want to get more community groups, organizations and businesses involved. It’s an easy and fun way to give back during the holidays! Commit to ringing the bells at a location for an entire day, and you can break that into however many shifts you need. Let people partner up, or create a competition among employees. Just one day of bell ringing could raise thousands of dollars for local people in need at the holidays and throughout the year. (Agree to match those donations – and double the difference you can make for others!)
To volunteer as a Red Kettle Bell Ringer during this Christmas season, contact Kelly Hendricks, Special Events/Volunteer Coordinator, at 251-438-1625 or Kelly_Hendricks@USS.SalvationArmy.org.
Corporate Angel Tree Sponsors– Imagine the excitement of a child on Christmas morning when he or she opens that shiny new toy or warm new coat, just the thing they’ve been wishing for all year! But for many families, that just isn’t possible. The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program has been collecting Christmas gifts for children in need for years. But this year, we want to get more groups, organizations and businesses involved in making sure that every child in Mobile and Baldwin Counties has a gift to open on Christmas morning. Let your group or company create your own Angel Tree by adopting 10 or more Angels. (Shopping for a child in need is great for team-building!) Or create an Angel Tree for your customers to adopt. Or simply choose to host a toy drive for our Forgotten Angels – those that get adopted, but their gifts never get returned.
For more information on becoming a 2015 Corporate Angel Tree Sponsor, contact Major Susan Brown at 251-438-1625 or Susan_Brown@USS.SalvationArmy.org.
Holiday Meals: Save the Date – We never have a shortage of volunteers eager to serve Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners to the homeless and those in need. We have some volunteers that have been serving for more than 20 years! Because those spots fill up quickly, we will begin taking reservations for Thanksgiving and Christmas on Tuesday, September 2nd – so mark your calendar now to become a part of this rewarding holiday tradition!
The contact for volunteering on Thanksgiving and Christmas will be Kelly Hendricks, Special Events/Volunteer Coordinator, at 251-5438-1625 or Kelly_Hendricks@USS.SalvationArmy.org.
