Red Kettles & Angel Trees

(November 18, 2014) Mobile, Ala. – In the midst of freezing temperatures and emergency shelter operations, The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama is still ready for an exciting and joyful holiday season! This week, we will kick off the Red Kettle Campaign, put the Angel Tree up in Bel Air Mall, and by next week we will be feeding Thanksgiving Dinner. But we could not do any of it without the help of the community. We need volunteers, Angel adoptions, and food donations to make this another happy holiday season!

IMG_0131You know that the holidays are here when the sounds of The Salvation Army Bell Ringers fill the air! The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama is excited to “ring” in the 2014 Christmas season once again with the City of Mobile. On Friday, November 21st, we will kick off the Red Kettles at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Bienville Square. Mayor Sandy Stimpson will make the first red kettle donation drop on behalf of the City of Mobile, rallying the support of the city in our efforts to continue helping those in need. Ceremonies begin at 6pm.

The Red Kettles will officially be out in Mobile and Baldwin Counties beginning Black Friday (November 28th) through Christmas. You will see them at Walmarts, Sam’s Clubs, Hobby Lobbys, Winn Dixies, and other local businesses. The Salvation Army also asks the community to volunteer as Bell Ringers. It’s a great opportunity for individuals, families and groups to get involved in a great holiday tradition with The Salvation Army during the season of giving. IMG_0078The Salvation Army believes that every child deserves to know the joy of a new toy or clothing, and get to share those special moments with family at Christmas. To help make the holidays brighter for the less fortunate, The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama is once again providing Christmas gifts to families in need through the Angel Tree Program. We expect to serve 2,000 children from Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

The Angel Tree booth at Bel Air Mall will be set up from Friday, November 21st – Sunday, December 14th. There are several ways the community can help with The Salvation Army Angel Tree program:
· Adopt an Angel from our tree in Bel Air Mall
· Host a toy/gift drive for our Forgotten Angels – angels who do not get adopted or whose gifts do not get returned
· Volunteer at our Angel Tree booth in Bel Air Mall to assist shoppers in adopting Angels
· Volunteer at our Angel Tree Warehouse, organizing donations as they are received
(To volunteer, contact Kelly Hendricks at 251-438-1625)
