Why Camp Hidden Lake

Each spring, many children leave school and head out for a fun-filled summer of camps.

However, for many kids from income-limited homes, the possibility of going to summer camp is not an option. With the help of The Salvation Army and donors in the community, kids from across Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi are able to experience one or more summer camp programs at our 300-acre camp in Lexington, Mississippi.

Summer camp is much more than a vacation.

Camp Hidden Lake teaches kids new skills, healthy attitudes, and great values. It offers sports, music, Bible Study, arts and crafts, swimming, fishing, and other activities for school-aged youngsters in our community.

At Camp Hidden Lake, campers experience long, hot summer days, dips in the pool, star-filled nights, campfires, roasted marshmallows, pillow fights, cabin devotions, emblem work, seeing old friends, and making new ones.

We believe every child should get to experience summer camp—exploring nature, learning new skills, developing confidence and building life-long friendships in a fun and nurturing environment.

We provide that experience for campers and counselors every summer at The Salvation Army’s Camp Hidden Lake. Transformational relationships and shared experiences create hope and a drive to create a better future.

But we need your help. Camp Hidden Lake is funded through donations so we can make these opportunities available to all children.

Camp Hidden Lake Helps Families Thrive:

Nature’s Power

Poets and artists have long recognized the restorative effect nature can have on us, and science has turned theory into fact. Research shows that simply having a view of nature can improve a student’s test scores, reduce aggressive behavior, and even speed physical healing. Kids at our summer camps benefit daily from the fresh air, exercise, and new friendships.

New Skills

The Salvation Army summer camp experience is more than just a pleasant vacation. Our counselors are trained to recognize your child’s emotional needs and problems and to help them to mature. Camp activities include swimming lessons, adventure and scouting camps, arts and crafts, music development, and sports. View Camp Schedule

Structure

Busy kids are happy kids. Our summer camp sessions provide a structured and positive environment, keeping kids active and safe while at the same time allowing them to learn about building relationships with other kids and the world around them. Camp sessions are programmed with activities for kids that engage and inform.

Together, we can make a difference

As in all of its programs, The Salvation Army views camping holistically, a ministry that addresses the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of people. After camp The Salvation Army continues its care for individuals and families at the local level primarily through its corps community centers.

For many neglected children or kids from troubled homes, camp offers a place of gentleness and peace- where camp counselors care enough to listen to their problems and help. Many children are waiting to hear if they can go to summer camp, so become a donor now and change a child’s life!
