Red Kettle Christmas Campaign Donations Down Over $50,000 Compared to Last Year
Birmingham, AL (Dec. 15, 2017) –The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Christmas Campaign only has seven days left and figures are down considerably as compared with the same time period last year. With the cost of providing service escalating as well as increased need, the public’s support is desperately needed. There are only seven days left in the campaign, and thus far The Salvation Army has raised $311,821.00, which represents only 51% of its campaign goal of $620,000. Needs are great throughout the Greater Birmingham area and The Salvation Army currently serves individuals in need in Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Chilton counties.
“This year, the Red Kettle season has been impacted by several contributing factors including an inclement weather day due to the snow across the area on December 8th. Additionally, we will miss out on our busiest day of the season, Christmas Eve, which falls on a Sunday this year and we don’t place kettles out on Sundays. Our community also responded in a big way to Hurricane Relief efforts, which may be a contributing factor as well,” said Major Roger Glick, Area Commander. In addition to individual contributors dropping money in those bright red kettles, The Salvation Army is hoping for some additional support from the business community at this time of year to give the campaign the boost it needs.
“We are so thankful for the many individuals and businesses who support The Salvation Army throughout the year and who have given to this year’s Christmas Campaign. Particularly at this time of year, we pray that more and more corporations and individual donors will feel the need to help their neighbors who are struggling,” said Major Roger Glick, Area Commander, “In addition to financial assistance, businesses and organizations can help by providing volunteers to serve as bell ringers at kettles.” Those wishing to volunteer can contact The Salvation Army at 205.328.2420 or visit the website and sign-up to be a volunteer bell ringer online at www.BirminghamSalvationArmy.org and completing the online Kettle Bell Ringer registration form.
