Education and Workplace Development

The Salvation Army of Greater Birmingham’s Education and Workforce Development Center is committed to providing innovative education and training programs and resources, that meet the needs of students, community, and business stakeholders through cross-agency partnerships.   Programming is designed to help students achieve the long-term employment and/or educational goals needed for financial self-sufficiency.

The Birmingham Salvation Army’s Education & Workforce Development Center provides a variety of administrative, counseling, and supportive services through collaborative partnerships.  Workforce Development is vital to the success and growth of career and life management skills. The Education and Workforce Development Center is at the heart of The Salvation Army of Greater Birmingham’s Center of Hope.  Students engage in a variety of educational, career, and lifestyle courses, designed to cultivate career-ready employees, equipped with the knowledge, training, and skills needed to achieve self-sufficiency, improve their well-being, and quality of life.
There are numerous training programs available, including education and workforce assessments, education and career counseling, basic life skills training, pre-GED, GED courses with a Diploma option, literacy assessments, career and technical training and certifications, job placement, and Associate Degree programs offered through a partnership with Jefferson State Community College.

Community partnerships are an integral component of The Education and Workforce Development Center, and we are always seeking opportunities to collaborate with educational, business, civic, and lifestyle agencies.  The Education and Workforce Development Center has seven, state-of-the-art classrooms available for on-site delivery of programs and classes.
