Lt. Alphonso Hughes
Lieutenant Alphonso Hughes serves as the KROC Officer for Congregational Life. Lt. Hughes is a native of Columbus, MS, and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior when he was 8 years old. As he grew older he accepted his calling to be a Pastor and prayed that he would be a pastor that “moved around.” In high school he was introduced to The Salvation Army through youth ministry and became a faithful member (soldier). In 2006, he accepted his calling as a Salvation Army Officer at a Youth Institute in Oklahoma.
To prepare for his call to be an Officer in The Salvation Army, Lt. Hughes attended Mississippi State and studied psychology. Later he worked as the Youth Evangelism and Outreach Director for The Salvation Army in Anniston, AL. From there he entered The Salvation Army Evangeline Booth College in 2013, to fulfill his calling to be an Officer. He was ordained/commissioned in June of 2015 and The Salvation Army Kroc serves as his first appointment.
Lt. has a passion for youth and encouraging them that they do not have to be a product of their surroundings, as he isn’t. He feels very strongly for our youth and their need for POSITIVE role models. Along with his passion for ministry, Lt. Hughes has a passion for healthy living and fitness which makes The Salvation Army Kroc Center a great fit for him. He looks forward to serving at The Salvation Army Kroc center and seeing God’s plan unfold here in Biloxi.
