Solar panel project provides The Salvation Army in Zimbabwe with sustainable power sources
The Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters (THQ) in Harare, Zimbabwe, has been working closely with the Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) in Kadoma, Mashonaland West Province, to fund a pilot project aimed at providing sustainable and cost-effective power sources. Both the THQ and DHQ have received funding from International Headquarters and have now installed solar panels.
The THQ has had an issue with power outages, and the new solar panels produce consistent power and reduce disruption to work for employees and officers.
Kadoma’s DHQ has been facing two main problems: finding a cost-effective power source and gaining access to clean running water. Previously, the DHQ was relying on diesel generators to fuel essential services, which kept the town running. However, the generators were a costly and unsustainable source of electricity. The solar panels were recently installed and now provide enough electricity to power Salvation Army buildings and the electric pump for the bore.
