A haven is defined as a place of shelter, refuge, and safety. However for residents of The Salvation Army Family Haven it is so much more. It is family, love, guidance, faith, support, and HOPE.
The Family Haven provides emergency housing for homeless families built upon the goal of keeping them together while teaching them the life skills needed to transition and maintain permanent housing. The Family Haven is the only shelter in the Coastal Alabama region of its kind, welcoming both single and two parent families.
On any given night, there could be up to 55 individuals from 15 different families living at the Family Haven. This is their “home.” We provide food, shelter, basic material needs, and a safe place for families in crisis to begin to heal. Each family is provided individualized services to assist in setting goals, obtaining life skills (such as budgeting), communication skills, parenting, stress management, finding a job, and more as they begin their journey to stable, permanent housing.
The Salvation Army Family Haven provides emergency housing for families without a home for up to 3 months.
The Family Haven can accommodate 15 families. The Family Haven is the only family shelter of its kind in the Coastal Alabama region. Both single fathers with children and single mothers with children as well as two parent families are welcome at the Family Haven. Parents who have children with disabilities are also welcome. “The Family Haven is more like a home than a traditional shelter”, said one family recently.
