  • 2012 Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

    The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama is gearing up for another busy holiday season, hoping to make this time of year a little brighter for those in need. But we can’t do it alone – we need an “Army” of Volunteers to make it possible! Please consider helping with one of the following opportunities:

    November 17th – December 15th
    Angel Tree Desk at Bel-Air Mall
    Volunteers sign out adopted Angels and receive the gifts purchased for them.
    Weekday shifts: 4pm – 8pm
    Weekend shifts: 10am – 1pm, 1pm – 4pm, 4pm – 8pm

    November 22nd 
    Thanksgiving Dinner 

    Volunteers will fill plates, wait tables, clear tables, greet guests, serve beverages and desserts.
    **THANKSGIVING DINNER IS FULL… Please consider serving a meal any day of the week. Thanksgiving volunteer reservations for 2013 will begin in September.**

    November 23– December 24 (9am – 8pm)
    Red Kettle Bell Ringers
    Volunteers needed to ring bells at kettle locations.
    Community, school, civic and church groups are urged to staff a kettle location for a day (or more).
    Individual volunteers may break the day into two shifts: 10am – 3pm or 3pm – 8pm

    December 8th (10am – 7pm)
    WALMART Fill the Truck Day
    Volunteers needed to ring bells, hand out information, accept donations, count and sort donations.
    6 to 8 volunteers needed at 11 WALMART locations.
    Ideal for school clubs, community, civic or church groups.

    December 9th – 18th (10am – 4pm)
    Angel Tree Warehouse
    Volunteers needed to check-in, sort and organize donations; fill gift requests for those whose gifts were not returned.
    Requires a good deal of walking, bending and some lifting
    Typical shifts: 10am – 1pm, 1pm – 4pm

    December 19th (Time TBA)
    Angel Tree Distribution 
    Volunteers needed as runners, greeters, check-out, toy shoppers, etc.
    Takes place in a warehouse setting, with most volunteers moving around to pick up and deliver gifts to check-out.

    December 25th (10:30am – 2:30pm)
    Christmas Dinner 
    Volunteers will fill plates, wait tables, clear tables, greet guests, serve beverages and desserts
    ** CHRISTMAS DINNER IS FULL… Please consider one of our other holiday volunteer opportunities! Christmas dinner volunteer reservations for 2013 will begin in September.**
