The Salvation Army believes that every child deserves to know the joy of a new toy and a special holiday meal with family at Christmas. The sad reality is that many families in the Baton Rouge community are not able to provide these joys to their children. The Salvation Army gives caring folks the chance to help by “adopting” a child from our Angel Tree. read more
The Christmas season at The Salvation Army peaks a few days before Christmas. As toy distribution begins, so does the fun. Parents arriving to sing Christmas carols and receive the gifts for their children that have been given through the Angel Tree program. Volunteers join in the excitement as the toys and food boxes are given to those in need. This year The Salvation Army partnered with the United States Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program to provide Christmas gifts to many children throughout our community.
Red Kettle Campaign
The week before Thanksgiving, The Salvation Army’s signature Red Kettles, manned by bell-ringers, can be spotted at numerous stores throughout the Baton Rouge area. This annual effort is The Salvation Army’s biggest fundraiser. All of the funds generated through this event stay right here in our community to support our Christmas assistance and food programs. They also provide assistance to those in need throughout the winter months. This project represents the community spirit of giving at its best- through the funds that are raised and the hundreds of volunteers who make this effort possible.
